About
TeachSOR.org is a nationally-available free resource developed to support educator preparation programs to ensure novice-teachers’ literacy instruction is aligned with the science of reading. The site provides curated, open-access resources to help faculty, institutional leaders and preparation programs integrate evidence-based literacy practices into coursework, clinical experiences and program planning.
The project was initiated with support from the IBIS Group and developed by a team based at the University of Virginia in collaboration with dozens of literacy researchers, teacher educators, policy leaders and practitioner advisors from across the country. Together, these partners bring expertise in literacy research, implementation science, teacher preparation and professional learning to ensure resources are both research-grounded and practically useful.
TeachSOR.org is designed to evolve. Its resources are reviewed, refined, and expanded based on emerging research and feedback from educators, faculty and state partners. Our goal is to support coherent, accessible preparation experiences that equip educators to deliver effective literacy instruction for all learners.
TeachSOR provides:
- Curated, evidence-based resources for faculty preparing future educators in evidence-aligned literacy instruction
- Tools to support program review, curriculum alignment and continuous improvement in teacher preparation
- Materials to support assessment literacy, instructional planning and implementation of effective reading practices
- Opportunities to connect with national community focused on improving literacy outcomes through educator preparation
We invite faculty, leaders and partners to explore the resources, share feedback, suggest additional materials and participate in the TeachSOR community.
